Italian Clubs Interested In Ljungberg, But West Ham’s Nani Unsure On Former Arsenal Star’s Future
Despite interest from Italian clubs, West Ham sporting director Gianluca Nani has disclosed that he is unaware where Freddie Ljungberg will be plying his trade after the Swedish winger’s contract was cancelled at Upton Park by mutual consent.
The 31-year-old had only joined the Hammers last summer after a successful long career at Arsenal, but an injury-hit season coupled with high wage bill along with apparent discord with boss Alan Curbishley, seems to have forced the decision with all parties agreeing on the contract to be rescinded.
“Ljungberg has just rescinded his contract with us and I don’t know where he will go,” Nani told Il Romanista.
“When he was at West Ham I had phone calls from Florence, Milan and every part of Italy.
“I know that Roma weren’t interested in moving for him before, but I don’t know whether the Giallorossi have changed their mind over the last few months.
“The problem is that Ljungberg has a high salary and it would be difficult for Roma to afford him.”
