Hoddle: New Players Can Give Their Very Best Only If Spurs Are In The Top Six
Former Tottenham Hotspur player and manager Glenn Hoddle is unsure whether Spurs have the quality to get themselves out of the mire following the north-London club’s worst start to the Premiership campaign since 1912.
Juande Ramos’ side are rock bottom of the league with just two points from seven games following a summer of large-scale changes in the playing personnel that saw experienced Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov amongst others leave while big-money signings Luka Modric, David Bentley and Roman Pavlyuchenko walked into the White Hart Lane.
However, Spurs have looked disjointed with Ramos, who guided Tottenham to Carling Cup glory last season, still looking to put his best XI on the pitch. And Hoddle is not sure if the new players can show their true quality in such circumstances.
"I'm surprised and disappointed," Hoddle told Sky Sports News.
"They've gone and spent again this year and your expectations as a Spurs man are that, after winning the League Cup, they'd build on that.
"My personal opinion is that they've bought some very good players but I think only if they're in the top six and the crowd are behind them will you see the very best of the players that they've bought.
"My concern as a Spurs man is whether they've got the battling qualities to get out of the position they find themselves in."
