Halftime Update: Manchester City 0 – 1 Chelsea – Dunne’s Self Goal Puts City Down At Halftime
Chelsea lead by a goal at half time against Manchester City in their Premiership tie at the City of Manchester Stadium on Saturday.
After the 2-1 defeat against Fenerbahce in the Champions League, Chelsea had six changes to their starting line-up. Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Ballack, Joe Cole, Claude Makelele, Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba were not the part of the starting eleven today.
In the 6th minute, Chelsea were rewarded for a confident start.
Former City striker Nicolas Anelka squared the ball from the right flank to Michael Essien but City defender Richard Dunne who in an attempt to clear the ball, toed it into his own nets.
The hosts then turned on the heat in search of the equaliser by creating attacks at regular intervals, but could not get the desired result.
In the 30th minute City striker Mwaruwari Benjani after a superb run, set up Stephen Ireland, but the midfielder’s attempt was blocked by Chelsea skipper John Terry.
In the 36th minute, City had a free kick from the edge of the box with Petrov's delivery saw Ireland tap from close being saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Cudicini.
