Half Time Update-Wigan Athletic 0-1 Man United- Ronaldo Puts Red Devils On Track To Retain Premiership Title
Manchester United are leading 1-0 at half time against Wigan Athletic at the JJB Stadium, and are 45 minutes away from retaining the title as things stand as Chelsea are locked goalless against Bolton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on the final day of the season.
Manchester United started with a strong line up welcoming back English striker Wayne Rooney and Serbian centre back Nemanja Vidic, and dominated the proceedings.
In the 31st minute, Wayne Rooney was brought down from a challenge by Emmerson Boyce. It looked a little clumsy but the England man certainly made the most of it and referee Steve Bennett with no doubt pointed to the spot.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently missed the penalty against Barcelona in the Champions league semis, stepped forward and made no mistake placing the ball past Wigan keeper Chris Kirkland.
United looked lucky as Rio Ferdinand got away with what looked a handball at the other end as he blocked Jason Koumas shot.
