GOAL UPDATE: Andorra 0-2 England World Cup Qualifier: Chelsea's Joe Cole Scores Two Goals After Substitution

Chelsea Other English and International Football News

England have taken a 2-0 lead against Andorra in their 2010 World Cup qualifier at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona on Saturday, with Chelsea's Joe Cole scoring both goals.

England started the first-half fully in control, with Theo Walcott, who replaced David Beckham in midfield, having an early shot off-target, with Portsmouth’s Glen Johnson forcing Andorra keeper Koldo into a save, but then the tempo dropped.

Jermain Defoe and Frank Lampard both had attempts go wide of goal, while some last-ditch tackles from the Andorran defence scuppered England’s chances in front of goal.

The game went into half-time 0-0, with boos ringing out from the England fans after a lame first-half from Fabio Capello’s Three Lions team, while the Andorrans will be thrilled to have kept the score at 0-0.

Joe Cole and Emile Heskey replaced Stewart Downing and Jermain Defoe for the second-half and England started the half with increased purpose.

Cole made the difference just minutes after replacing Downing, opening the scoring with a superb volleyed goal.

He was assisted beautifully by Everton’s Joleon Lescott, who dinked his pass to Cole on the edge of the six-yard box, with Joe Cole smashing home a superb volley past Andorran keeper Koldo to make it 1-0 to England.

The Chelsea star scored his second goal minutes later after Cole received the ball from a throw-in, passing to Gareth Barry then Wayne Rooney, who played a wonderful reverse pass to the onrushing Cole, who slid the ball into goal past the keeper to make it 2-0.
