Liverpool suffered a blow as captain Steven Gerrard is reportedly set to miss the start of their European campaign due to a thigh muscle tear.
With central midfielders Javier Mascherano and Lucas Leiva, winger Ryan Babel at the Olympics; Reds boss Rafa Benitez might push on to sign Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry sooner rather than later.
England international Gerrard had suffered the injury in Tuesday's friendly in Norway after just 20 minutes. And scans have now revealed a slight tear in his thigh, according to the Mirror.
