Newcastle United, Everton Premiership Match Previews

A struggling Everton side will take on troubled Newcastle United in the Premiership clash at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The Toffees are yet to pick up a point at their home and their overall form has been poor as David Moyes’ side, who were also knocked out of the UEFA Cup on Thursday, find themselves in the 14th place with just seven points in six games.

Their opponents, Newcastle are, undergoing a turbulent time on and off the pitch and currently find themselves second from the bottom in the league table with just four points having lost their last four league games.

Magpies interim boss Joe Kinnear will have to make sure that his players show confidence on the field after their current losing run looked to have drained the self belief out of the Toon men as recently admitted by captain Michael Owen, who has however been amongst the goals regularly.

The 61-year-old Kinnear will however, have to leave the dug-out duties to caretaker Chris Hughton and take a place in the stands as he serves out his two-match ban that is carried forward from his time at Nottingham Forest four years ago.

On injury and suspension front, the Toffees are most affected as influential attacking midfielder Tim Cahill will begin his three-match ban following his sending off in the Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool last week, while captain Phil Neville and Louis Saha are injury doubts after picking up knocks against Standard Liege.

Newcastle, however, have something to cheer as they go in search of a positive result with Kinnear having the boost of getting back midfielder Danny Guthrie from suspension. Full-backs Jose Enrique (hamstring) and Habib Beye (Achilles) are also fit to be in the side.

Jonas Gutierrez (fractured collarbone), Mark Viduka (Achilles), Alan Smith (stress fracture), Ignacio Gonzalez (hamstring), Obafemi Martins (knee) and suspended Joey Barton, are all still out.
