Everton & Arsenal Target Mbia: 'We Have Until Midnight'

Everton, Arsenal Premiership Transfer News

Everton and Arsenal target Stephane Mbia has revealed that he is yet to sign a new contract with Rennes, with the midfielder claiming that his father and lawyer are in talks with the French club about an improved deal.

Earlier in the summer Mbia had stated publicly his desire to make the switch to Goodison Park, with the Merseyside club understood to have made a substantial bid for the Cameroon International. Which Mbia thought would be enough to secure his move to the Premier League.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was also reportedly very keen on the 22-year-old as he searched for replacements for the key midfielder's that left the Emirates Stadium this summer.

However with the transfer window about to slam shut Mbia has not completely ruled out a move to Everton or the Gunners, but is more likely to stay in France for the time being.

“We have until midnight, we'll see,” he told L’Equipe.

“My father and my lawyer are currently with the Rennes management to find a solution. Apparently, an extension with a substantial wage increase is under consideration. “

When asked if it would be a disaster if he were to stay with Rennes, Mbia revealed that it would be the complete opposite.

He replied: “On the contrary! Rennes is a great club which is in the process of going forward.

“If I stay, it will be a plus for everyone. I still have a lot to learn and I think I will have the chance to make contact with Guy Lacombe.

“All I want is to play. If possible as soon as possible. I want to return to football.”
