Dimitar Berbatov Not To Leave Tottenham Hotspur ‘At Least For Now’ Despite Manchester United Making Enquiry
Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov will not leave Tottenham Hotspur for now after having got a rise in his wages.
Reports were rife after Spurs’ loss on the opening day at Sunderland that the 26-year-old had a bust-up with manager Martin Jol and could be sold.
However, the reports were dismissed by the player as well as Jol, who said that he would rather die than sell Berbatov.
The Dutchman however revealed that a club had inquired about the former Bayer Leverkusen ace, who had joined the north London club last summer and went on to score 12 Premiership goals in his first season.
And Berbatov’s agent Emil Danchev has disclosed that defending champions Manchester United had asked about the player.
Nevertheless, Berbatov is having no plans of leaving at least for now.
"I chose to join Tottenham last season, now I'm staying at the club through my own free will. At least for now. No one said that United didn't have interest in me and my price in general but it has to be clear that there will not be a move for now," he told Bulgarian Football Weekly on Monday.
"There has been a lot of speculation but all I can say now is that this saga has strengthened Jol's position and that the club's board decided to raise my salary."
