Didier Digard Moves To Middlesbrough For £4m

Middlesbrough Premiership Transfer News

Paris St-Germain and French midfielder Didier Digard becomes Manager Gareth Southgate's second signing for Middlesbrough within 24 hours, following the capture of striker Marvin Emnes from Sparta Rotterdam.

21-year old Digard who had been suspended by the French Club after he accused them of standing in the way of his move to Boro has now passed a medical and has signed a four-year contract worth £4m.

Manager Gareth Southgate told the club website: "Didier is a holding midfielder who is a good athlete and a strong tackler."

"We've had our eye on him for quite a long time and we looked at him and were impressed when watching him play for Paris St-Germain and for the French national sides."

Southgate added: "As with Emnes, he is another exciting, young talent who fits the profile of hungry, ambitious players that we want here."

Digard a former Le Harve player, had earlier revealed a £4m deal had been agreed but that PSG were insisting the whole fee must be paid up front.

As a result, the midfielder was suspended by the French club, pending the issue of "appropriate sanctions".

However, PSG claimed the suspension would not affect Digard's transfer situation.

Southgate confirmed his interest in signing the France Under-21 midfielder in early June.

Digard arrived in Paris with a great reputation, but because of injury, he struggled to make an impact in the last campaign and made only 15 appearances.
