Derby’s Laurent Robert Delighted - Rams Get Villa Clearance - Savage To Sign For Rams From Blackburn
Laurent Robert is happy to be back in the Premiership after getting a deal at Derby County.
The 32-year-old former Newcastle United and Portsmouth winger will be at Paul Jewell’s side until the end of the season. If he gets international clearance in time, the former France international could make his Rams debut on Saturday against Wigan Athletic.
"The Derby manager called my agent to say he wanted me and I came quickly because the quality and the atmosphere in the Premier League is the best in the world," he told the club's official website.
"Everything you see here at the training ground is professional. I am very happy because I signed this morning and for my head that is fantastic.
"I don't know the city but my family are coming over this Friday and I'm very happy to be back in England with Derby.
"The club's position here is a bit difficult but I'm here to put my experience in and work hard - that's it.
"I love football and I hope I will stay healthy."
33-year-old Wales midfielder Robbie Savage has also agreed a £2million switch from Blackburn Rovers, with Derby boss Jewell beating Sunderland to the transfer.
Savage travelled to Derby's training ground today to agree personal terms and, speaking to Sky Sports News, said: "I haven't signed yet, but hopefully tomorrow I'll be coming back and signing".
Derby, currently rooted at the bottom of the Premier League, are also boosted as they received the international clearance for new signing Argentine striker Emanuel Villa - who comes to Pride Park from Mexican club side UAG Tecos.
