Chelsea’s Cech Eyes ‘Away Goal’ In Champions League Semis Against Liverpool
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has urged his team-mates to get an ‘away goal’ when the Blues clash with Liverpool in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The west-Londoners have lost twice at the same stage to the Reds in last three years, but on this occasion they have the second leg home advantage.
The Czech Republic international said on his official website: "To score an away goal has proved to be a key factor in the Champions League so far this season.
"That fact was confirmed for instance in our tie with Fenerbahce. Although we lost 2-1 in Istanbul, we only needed to score one goal at home and not to concede, which we did, to go through.
"I also think that it is good for us that the second leg is being played at Stamford Bridge. It is certainly an advantage."
The Blues are currently in the running for a double, as they are only three points behind leaders Manchester United in the Premiership ahead of next weekend’s clash at Stamford Bridge.
"We are in good spirits ahead of this game," added Cech, who had suffered injury problems earlier in the season.
"In the Premier League we fulfilled our goal by beating Everton (1-0 last Thursday) and now we are fully concentrating on the Champions League.
"I am glad that I am able to help the team in this final and most decisive stage of the season."
