Chelsea have moved swiftly to end speculations that had suggested that Shaun Wright-Phillips was on a swap offer in return for Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe.

The Blues said in a statement on their official website: “Contrary to media reports today, Chelsea Football Club is not in discussions with any club about a possible transfer or swap deal involving Shaun Wright-Phillips.”

A tabloid report on Wednesday had suggested that England internationals Wright-Phillips and Defoe have agreed to the move. However, it claimed that Spurs want a fee in the region of £4m.

But Jose Mourinho’s side have steered clear of the rumours as the former Manchester City winger has made his best displays so far in his Blues career since moving to Stamford Bridge in 2005.
