Blackburn Boosted With Santa Cruz’s Speedy Recovery
Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams has revealed that star striker Roque Santa Cruz is making a speedy recovery from his injury and could be fit in the time for Paraguay’s World Cup qualifier against Argentina on Saturday.
The 27-year old forward suffered an achilles injury in Rovers’ 4-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham United last weekend but now seems happy with a quick recovery.
'I feel good. This injury is less significant than another one I had in the past," he said.
"I want to play on Saturday. If not, I will let another player take my place. We have other good forwards.
Paraguay team doctor Manuel Aguilar added: 'If we can use him in the second half it would be a boost.
Meanwhile Williams confessed that it would be good news for Rovers’ if Santa Cruz features on Saturday.
"At Upton Park, the feeling was that he might be okay for the second game (against Venezuela), but with the comments he’s made the signs are positive," he said.
"It’s a massive game for them on Saturday, and if he is fit he will want to play, which is good for us that he gets the games in after coming off early against West Ham."
