Latest reports have confirmed that Jermain Defoe has sealed a transfer move from Tottenham Hotspur, with Zimbabwean striker Benjani Mwaruwari expected to be moving from Fratton Park to Manchester City late on the transfer day deadline.

Defoe underwent a medical at Fratton Park and agreed personal terms on Thursday evening, but the deal was held-up while the Portsmouth directors waited for news of the transfer of Benjani, which wasn’t confirmed until minutes after the January transfer window closed at Midnight.

One thing that has been confirmed from both clubs is that the paperwork has been delivered to The FA, but Manchester City are yet to confirm with the FA that the deal for Benjani has officially gone through.

Jermain Defoe has reportedly signed a long-term deal, for an undisclosed fee, while the fact that the transfer deal for Defoe was based on the assurance that the transfer of Benjani would provide funds, we can be fairly certain that the official confirmation of the Zimbabwean strikers move will come from Manchester City in the next few minutes.

Defoe, speaking to SkySportsNews after having passed a medical at Fratton Park earlier on Thursday evening, said: “I can’t wait to be honest, I just want to get my boots on and get on with it.

“I just want to play some football and score some goals.”
