Barcelona Could Move For Arsenal’s Van Persie If Henry Leaves
Barcelona are said to be interested in signing Arsenal forward Robin van Persie, who is yet to sign a new deal at the north London club.
Van Persie’s current contract with the Gunners ends in 2011 and despite the recent reports that the Dutch international is set to pen a fresh deal of £80,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium, there has not been any concrete development in that direction.
Meanwhile, the Spanish giants are reportedly chasing the 25-year-old, who is with Arsene Wenger’s side since 2004 arrival from Feyenoord.
According to The Daily Mail, Van Persie fits the left-sided attacking role Barca would be seeking.
In recent times, Arsenal have sold Thierry Henry and Alexander Hleb to the Camp Nou side. However, French centre forward Henry is apparently unhappy as he is being played on an unfamiliar left-sided position and could leave the Catalans in the summer.
As such, Barcelona seem to be eyeing a specialist left-winger for a summer swoop and Van Persie future could now come under increasing speculation with the Gunners suffering inconsistency this season being written off as the title contenders by many.
