Aston Villa’s Davies & Agbonlahor Early Doubts Ahead Of Newcastle Clash
Aston Villa central defender Curtis Davies and striker Gabriel Agbonlahor are to find out soon whether they will be able to play in Saturday’s Premiership home game against Newcastle United.
Davies suffered a knee problem towards the closing stages of the Premiership defeat against Fulham after seeing Agbonlahor, who had to withdraw from England squad, leaving field earlier in the same clash with a hamstring injury.
The 22-year-old, who is on loan at Villa Park from West Brom, is however optimistic that his injury is not serious.
"I don't know what happened. I was running back from a corner and, as I stopped, I just felt my knee. Every time when I tried to straighten it out after that it was hurting,” he is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
"I thought I might be able to run it off but I looked at the bench and thought they might be better getting someone else on for the last three minutes.
"I didn't want to be at fault for another goal. It is sore at the moment but it does not look too serious. I will just have to see what the physios have to say."
On Agbonlahor, he added: "It is a big blow for Gabby as regards England but I don't think it is anything too serious, just a strain. If he had played on he might have hurt it more. We are hoping that he will be all right for the weekend, but you never know. He has to have some treatment and we will see what the physios say from there."
