Aston Villa Reject Fourth Transfer Bid From Liverpool For Gareth Barry - O'Neill Disciplines Skipper

Liverpool, Aston Villa Premiership Transfer News

Aston Villa have rejected a renewed offer from Liverpool for England midfielder Gareth Barry, with The Reds' offer falling "Well short of Aston Villa's evaluation" of The Villans skipper.

Liverpool have already had three offers for Barry turned down by Villa, with Reds manager Rafael Benitez intent on bringing the 27-year-old to Anfield this summer.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill has, meanwhile, disciplined Barry after the Aston Villa captain, who has revealed that he is desperate for Liverpool move, spoke of his desire to make a transfer to Anfield in an interview on Sunday.

"Gareth will not be returning to training tomorrow and he has been disciplined after giving an unauthorised interview to the News of the World," said O'Neill on Wednesday.

Barry is reportedly valued by the Villa manager at £18million, with reports of an offer of £17million from The Reds labelled "inacurate" in a statement on the official Aston Villa website.

The statement issued on Wednesday evening read: "The report in today´s paper of a £17million offer for Gareth Barry is inaccurate. The club have received a renewed offer from Liverpool for the player but that still falls well short of Aston Villa's evaluation, and has subsequently been rejected."

It still seems likely that Barry will make the move this summer, as Reds boss Benitez seems so adamant on securing the transfer, plus Barry's desire to play Champions League football next season, a deal is likely to be concluded in the near future, with Villa likely to hold out for the predicted fee of £18million.
