Aston Villa Join Chelsea & Spurs In Owen Chase? O’Neill Steers Away From Naming Striker Targets

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has refused to be drawn into speculation that suggests interest from the Midlands club in Newcastle United captain and striker Michael Owen.

Villa are looking to bolster their attack in the January transfer window, and have apparently joined a growing number of Premiership sides looking to sign England international Owen, 28, whose contract at St James’ Park ends in the summer.

However, O’Neill has not gone into revealing any names that he wants to try bringing to Villa Park.

"We haven't got the same competitive cover up front as we have in other areas," O'Neill told The Sun.

"We have Marlon Harewood and young Nathan Delfouneso, who I think will become a really good player.

"But, without naming names, it is fair to say we are looking to see if we can bring someone in to get a bit of extra strength in that department."

Apart from Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have been linked with the former Liverpool and Real Madrid player Owen, who has a history of injury problems.
