Arsenal Join Lyon, Ajax, Middlesbrough & Palermo In Pursuit Of Standard Liege’s Defour
Arsenal are keeping tabs on Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour, claims the player’s agent.
Although nothing is concrete at this stage with regards to a possible move in the winter, Paul Stefani claims a host of clubs – including Middlesbrough - are tracking the 20-year-old Belgium international.
The Gunners are likely to bring in new signings to reinforce the squad in the January transfer market with manager Arsene Wenger particularly looking for a centre-midfield enforcer.
However, if they decide to pursue Defour interest, there is likely to be a transfer scramble with Lyon, Ajax and Palermo also linked with Liege captain.
Agent Stefani said in La Derniere Heure: "Steven Defour is regularly linked with other clubs. After Ajax, Middlesbrough and Palermo, there are bigger teams mentioned.
"Lyon and Arsenal came to scout Steven, and they decided to return to watch him again."
Stefani added: "There is nothing concrete.
"If an offer does arrive, Standard should really consider it. If the deal matches all parties, his departure is very possible. He could move in January, you never know.”
