Arsenal Closing In On Arshavin? Man City Target Stays A Gunner
Arsenal could be in for Andrei Arshavin even as manager Arsene Wenger was prepared to stay tight-lipped on the hotly-linked star. The Gunners boss, however, stated that no player will be sold and Kolo Toure stays at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are constantly linked with Russia international attacking midfielder Arshavin, who is keen to leave Zenit St Petersburg and the Gunners are said to be in talks for the signing of £20million-rated star.
Wenger has however given out little, but has admitted that there is a strong possibility that he will spend this month to bolster the north London club, who are without injured playmaker and captain Cesc Fabregas while midfielder Tomas Rosicky has not played at all so far this season as his recovery has not gone according to the plan.
"We do not want to talk too much about who we want to buy," the French tactician told Arsenal TV online.
"At the moment I cannot give you any good news but in this job no news is good news. Nothing has fallen through. We are on alert in the transfer market."
"That (defensive midfielder) is also a priority," he said.
"We are not in the big league. We are a little short because we wanted a player like Rosicky to play 80% of games and he has not played at all.
"We want to spend money but as everyone knows, and as the chairman has said, we have money available but we have limited resources, and you want to spend it in the best way possible."
Ivory Coast international defender Kolo Toure has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester City after having tried to submit a transfer request that was not accepted. Wenger has stated that the 27-year-old is going nowhere this month.
"That (Toure story) is finished. We will not sell any players this month."
