Aragones Names 23-Man Spain Squad For EURO 2008 Finals: Liverpool's Reina, Arbeloa, Alonso, Torres & Arsenal's Fabregas Named
Spain head coach Luis Aragones has named his 23-man squad for the EURO 2008 Finals in Austria/Switzerland, which kicks-off on June 7, 2008.
Aragones has omitted Spain's top-scorer Raul for the tournament. Raul has scored a total of 44 international goals in 104 appearances and is currently third in La Liga goal-scoring charts this season, but has failed to make the Spanish side since September 2006. Aragones has named Real Zaragoza striker Sergio Garcia to have a chance to earn his first cap for La Selección.
Aragones has named five Premier League players in his final 23-man squad, with Liverpool supplying four of them.
Pepe Reina, winner of the Golden Glove award for the third year running, has been called-up, as has defender Alvaro Arbeloa, Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso and star striker Fernando Torres will all feature for La Roja.
Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas is also expected to feature heavily in the tournament as Spain aim to seal their first international trophy since winning the UEFA European Nations Cup, back in 1964 when they hosted the tournament.
