AC Milan Skipper Paolo Maldini Keen For Chelsea Striker Andriy Shevchenko To Return To Rossoneri
AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini has extended a warm welcome to ex-club mate Andrei Shevchenko to watch him and his team take on Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League finals in Athens on Wednesday.
Shevchenko who, since his move to Chelsea last season, has seemed to be struggling ever since his move to Stamford Bridge and is rumored to move away from the recently crowned FA Cup winners this summer.
The officials at AC Milan have invited the Ukrainian to Wednesday’s Champions League final showdown giving rise to gossip of his possible return to San Siro.
Earlier this month Rossoneri president Silvio Berlusconi declared that 'the door was open' for the Sheva to return.
Maldini believes that Shevchenko is not happy with his decision to move away from Milan and has advised him its still not too late to come back.
"Every player who leaves Milan always regrets his decision, but the club never forgets a player who has given so much to the shirt," Maldini told The Sun.
"No grudges are held at Milan. This philosophy means anyone can come back and Sheva all the more so.
"He would certainly be made as welcome as ever."
Wednesday’s final will be Maldini’s eight European Cup final but the defender agrees that he still regrets the defeat two years ago.
"It is something I still have not digested - we deserved to win and we lost," he said.
"Of all the major games I have played in, Istanbul was the hardest to take."
