Spurs To Swoop For Ajax Star? - Watch Him In Action

Tottenham Hotspur are understood to be considering a swoop for left-back Urby Emanuelson at Eredivisie giants Ajax, with Spurs manager Harry Redknapp keen to bolster his options on the left hand side at White Hart Lane in the summer.

22-year-old Emanuelson, who can also play on the left wing, is a product of the famed Ajax Academy and after making his senior debut at the Amsterdam Arena in 2005. The left-sided player has made over 100 appearances for the Godenzonen and has 11 caps for Holland, but missed out on the Dutch squad for EURO 2008.

Emanuelson is also believed to be a target for Spurs’ Premier League rivals Aston Villa, with the defender apparently worried about his place in the Ajax side and seemingly open to an offer from the Premiership.

“I don't know what the plans are, but I don't want to drop out of the starting XI for next season. I can play in many positions, but I could find myself on the bench,” said Emanuelson.

“Although I have a contract for another two years, I do think about things every now and then. Of course, I would have to see what interest there is in me and from which clubs.”

Villans boss Martin O’Neill is understood to see Emanuelson as a replacement for Nicky Shorey, who has failed to make his mark at the Midlands club since his transfer from Reading last summer.

While, Redknapp still has concerns about Welsh International Gareth Bale and could lose his preferred left-back, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, who is wanted by Ligue 1 side Paris St Germain.

Under contract at Ajax until 2011, Emanuelson is valued in the region of £5.5million, with the Dutch side probably powerless to keep the young utility player, should Spurs or Villa come calling.
