Turmoil At Newcastle Preventing Bassong Arsenal Move?

French Under-21 International Sebastien Bassong has claimed that the turmoil at Newcastle United is preventing the defender from leaving St James’ Park, with Arsenal said to have made an approach for the former Metz player.

23-year-old Bassong has let his desire to leave the Magpies be known and is keen to leave The Toon following the North East clubs relegation from the Premiership last term.

Bassong revealing his discontent at the current situation at United and claiming that the Gunners have made an enquiry regarding a possible switch to the Emirates Stadium.

“Premier League clubs are interested in me, but nothing is simple because Newcastle are in the middle of a takeover and nobody knows who will be the manager,” Bassong is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

The defender said when asked about the interest from the Gunners: “I can confirm there was an approach, but for now nothing is concrete.

“Foreign clubs inquired, but as it is my priority to stay in England, I didn’t respond. Obviously, it would be better if things gathered pace, but I’m not worried.”

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be interested in offering Bassong a top-flight return, with the Frenchman one of the few stand out performers for Newcastle in their disappointing last campaign.
