Newcastle United, also known as The Magpies or The Toon Army, are historically the eighth most successful team in English football, with five League titles and six FA Cup wins to their name, but have been without any success since 1955.
Kevin Keegan, who took over from former Magpies boss boss Sam Allardyce midway through the 2007/08 season, resigned as Magpies boss in early September 2008. Joe Kinnear was named his successor on the 26th September 2008, with his initial one-month period as interim manager being extended until the end of the 2008/09 season.
